Oil Derrick

Being born and raised in Alberta, one quickly becomes accustomed to seeing oil derricks like the one below littered around the prairie landscape. Oil and gas has been the bread and butter of my province for countless years, and has been paying the bills in my family for more than 30 years as both my father and I work in the industry.

This will probably be my last post for a few days as I’m going in for laser eye surgery at noon today! I’m not terribly nervous yet, but I know I will be in a couple hours when I get to the clinic. Wish me luck, and I’ll catch up with all of you next week!

Bridge Over Fish Creek

From a winter wonderland photo yesterday to a beautiful summer haven today…apparently I’m feeling a little schizophrenic when it comes to choosing photos to process Growing up in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Fish Creek Park was a pillar of natural beauty for me as a kid. Going back now brings back memories of countless bike rides, skipping rocks with my dad, and having picnic lunches with family and friends. When I’m lucky enough to have my own kids, I know we’ll be spending some quality time in the park, just like I did.

Winter Road

We’ve been getting some pretty dismal weather here in Calgary for the past couple of weeks. Temperatures have been well below normal and it’s been grey skies and rain almost all day, every day…not a very nice September. However, one of the great (or awful) things about living in Calgary is that the weather can change at the drop of a hat…we’re supposed to be seeing highs back up into the 20′s (celsius) by the weekend! If you ever make it to Calgary I’m sure at some point during your visit someone will comment on the weather…it’s always a valid topic of conversation since you never know what’s going to happen. “Don’t like the weather? Wait ten minutes”

Benched

I kinda feel like I’ve been benched lately. We’ve been getting an unbelievable amount of rain here in Calgary this month, and it’s been putting a serious damper on my planned photography excursions. It’s almost been two weeks since I’ve been out shooting brackets for HDR and I’m suffering from a bit of withdrawal…this has also forced me to go back through my relatively small archive of brackets to find some images worth posting. Although this is a valuable exercise, I’d much rather be shooting and processing new images.
